Puno is not particularly known for its charming city centre (not very beautiful at all), but for its location at the Lake Titicaca and its proximity to the famous “floating islands”.. Hence, today we went on a small boat to visit “The Uros”- floating islands man-made out of reed where a few families actually live. While the women (and children) take care of the tourists, men are hardly seen as they are all day out fishing. Those floating islands in the Lake Titicaca actually exist for many centuries and were originally built to escape the Incas..

In the afternoon we went on a tour to see the Inca ruins of “Sillustani”. Based on a penisula, Incas built hugh tower-like tombs for their deceased loved ones. One tomb per family. Very interesting excursion.

We also met today an inspiring Brasilian couple who have been traveling with their converted Hilux so far for 15 months from Brasil to Alaska and back… http://www.projetoanima.com
